As we celebrate all the ways the Rose Andom Center helps domestic violence victims build dignity within our facility, we are proud to highlight MotherWise, an in-house partner that empowers mothers and their families to thrive while they are pregnant and after giving birth.
MotherWise’s mission is to empower women and their families to thrive during pregnancy and after a new baby is born. Their core program includes 6 weeks of workshops plus one-on-one coaching for mothers on knowing themselves, what healthy relationships are to them, communication and relationship skills for all kinds of relationships, and connecting with a newborn baby. The evidence-based curriculum, Within My Reach, is used to teach skills and explore a range of topics. The MotherWise program serves any pregnant woman or parent of a newborn, some of whom may have experienced domestic violence. They have continued to expand their programming and have recently begun serving pregnant and parenting teens.
MotherWise has been one of the Rose Andom Center’s original tenants, with offices and classrooms on the second floor of the building when we opened in 2016. However, it was quickly apparent that they provided a key partnership to the Rose Andom Center. Their staff provides supervision in the children’s play area, bringing compassion, joy and support to children coming to the Rose Andom Center, while their parent receives services from MotherWise, or the many other partners at the Rose Andom Center. In 2019, there were over 2,700 child visits to the play area. During the pandemic, the playroom has not been open due to services being delivered remotely. We are looking forward to re-opening the playroom as guidance around child vaccines develop.

MotherWise participants receive one-on-one coaching and attend group classes that focus on bonding with newborns, communications, and addressing family issues. In addition to serving Rose Andom Center clients, MotherWise staff is present at the Rose Andom Center Health Clinic to ensure their participants receive adequate medical care.
