When the Headlines Hit Too Close: Centering Survivors in Moments of Collective Trauma

Dear Community,

None of us can avoid the recent news involving the so-called “r*pe academy” and public figures using their positions of power to violate people’s bodies. If you are like me, you may be feeling a mix of anger, exhaustion, grief, or even numbness. That response makes sense. The steady stream of overwhelming information—headline after headline, day after day—doesn’t just feel like trauma; it can feel like being saturated in it. It’s not just news; it’s personal, it’s layered, and it can reopen wounds in ways that are hard to name.

I want to speak directly to those who feel this most deeply.

We spend a lot of time analyzing those who cause harm in situations like this—their actions, their accountability, their intent, how they can and should talk about it. And while those conversations matter, they often leave out the very people most impacted. So this is a pause to center you.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. If you’re feeling unsettled, shaken, tired, or just done with having to process this kind of harm over and over again—you’re not alone in that either. There is nothing excessive about your response to something that is, at its core, deeply violating.

At the Rose Andom Center, we see the impact of this every day. Not just the individual acts of violence, but the cumulative weight of living in a world where these stories keep surfacing. It takes a toll. And it deserves care, not dismissal.

If you need somewhere to land, come here.

We offer a community of support that meets you where you are—whether that’s in crisis, in reflection, or somewhere in between. Our team includes bilingual staff, advocates, and partners who are here to listen, to support, and to walk alongside you without judgment.

You don’t have to carry this alone.
