Before there were clients in the halls, before advocates sat beside survivors, there was a belief shared by many: we could do better for people experiencing domestic violence.

In 2015, that belief took shape. Architects, city leaders, advocates, and community partners gathered around a bold idea to create one safe place where survivors could access support without being sent from door to door. Under the leadership of Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, and Founding Executive Director Margaret Abrams, and made possible by the generosity of Rose Andom, a once-empty building became a promise of dignity and hope. The collaborative community stood firmly behind the vision, recognizing the power of bringing systems together under one roof. The capital campaign to fund the Center was led by Maggie Morrissey, whose dedication helped turn vision into reality.

This wasn’t just construction. It was careful listening. Survivor-centered planning. Long meetings fueled by commitment and trust. It was the City and County of Denver, the Denver District Attorney’s Office, OZ Architects, Milender White Construction, and countless generous donors and partners saying: survivors deserve better.
